Re-Opening Information

We would like to welcome our MLCES families back for the start of the 2020-2021 school year. We know that this school year will be unlike any that we have experienced. We have been working hard to prepare the school and classrooms so that your child has the best and safest educational experience. Below you will find an outline of our plans to make sure the school year runs smoothly. If you have any questions or concerns about how we are conducting business feel free to reach out to us. We look forward to seeing you at the start of the school year.

Extended Day Before Care will be located in the gym from 6:30 AM to 8:00 AM.  EDP staff members will accept students at the Gym exterior door only.  Students will remain with the EDP staff in the gym until 8:00  AM and will then be escorted to their grade level hall where they will receive a grab  and go breakfast.  After the first week, they will be escorted to the appropriate area as the breakfast plan is updated.

Buses will deliver students to the back of the school at the bus port.  Bus riders will enter at 8:00 AM and will enter the building through the back door of C Hall. For the first week of school, students will be offered a grab and go breakfast at this point as they enter the building and will go directly to their class. After the first week, they will be directed to the grade level location that is identified within the revised breakfast plan.

Car riders, bike riders and walkers may enter the building at 8:00 AM and will enter through the front door.  These students will be offered a grab and go breakfast as they enter the building.  They will go to their classrooms for breakfast for the first week. A revised plan for breakfast will be created after the first week and will be communicated to families.

BREAKFAST- For the first week of school, students will eat in their classrooms. Students will be offered a grab and go breakfast as they enter the building.  They will need to wash their hands or use hand sanitizer before eating. After the first week we will re-examine our plan and adjust where necessary but still maintain social distancing. This plan will be communicated to families via Class Dojo.

LUNCH- We will have grade level lunch times of 30 minutes total for each grade. Classes will not have staggered lunch times. Students will line up at the door on the left to enter the cafeteria.  There will be two lines with two choices.  Trays will be preplated and once the students move into the entree line of their choice, students will pick up a tray and choose white or chocolate milk. Cutlery will be prepackaged. Seats will be numbered and students should be assigned a seat.  Custodians will clean tables during the last 5 minutes of the 30 minute lunch time.

CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT - Students inside the classroom will be spaced out as far as possible. All excess furniture has been removed to allow for maximum distance. Surfaces and chairs will be disinfected prior to class changes for departmentalized classes and frequently during the day in all other classes.

RESOURCE CLASSES - Resource classes will continue as scheduled and will maintain social distancing and disinfecting between classes.

HANDWASHING PLAN - Teachers will have students wash and sanitize their hands throughout the day.

TRANSITION PLAN - Students will use only the right side of the hall when transitioning from class to class. Departmentalized grades will switch one class at a time with no more than one class in the hall waiting to enter the next class. While in the hallway students will keep an arms length between each other.

WATER FOUNTAINS - No students will be allowed to drink from the water fountains.  Fountains will only be used for refilling water bottles.

WATER BOTTLES - Students will be encouraged to bring refillable water bottles. If they do not bring a water bottle and it is PE day, we will have paper cups that students can use for getting a drink. Coach Bentle will have these cups.

RECESS- Each homeroom will have a designated zone for recess each day. Classes will rotate to different zones through the week. Classes should not mix during recess.  Teachers will be positioned to monitor their class.

Car riders - We will start earlier during the first week of school. Pre-K, K, and 1st grade students will sit in the middle of a square along the back walkways at car dismissal.  2nd and 3rd grade will line up on C Hall sidewalk.  4th and 5th will line up on D Hall sidewalk. Students will be spaced out appropriately.

Walkers and bikers - Students will begin departing the school at 3:15 and will be walked to the crosswalk in small groups.

Bus Riders -  Students will have assigned seats, siblings will sit together. Students will be encouraged to wear a mask on the bus. Hand sanitizer will be made available on the bus.

Open house will be Friday July 31 starting at 4:00 and ending at 5:00 for students who have last names ranging from A-M. Students with last names beginning with the letters N through Z will have an open house from 5:00-6:00. All registration, transportation, etc… tables will be located outside. Please visit these prior to heading down to your classroom.

We are excited to see your student and begin our school year! We will work diligently to ensure that your child has a safe and successful school year. Please feel free to reach out to us with any questions.
